Our flight into Okinawa was landing late at night, so we looked for an affordable hotel near Naha Airport.

Mercure Okinawa Naha: The Basics
Access (1 minute on foot from Tsubogawa Station)
Mercure Okinawa Naha sits right in front of Tsubogawa Station on the Yui Rail (Okinawa Urban Monorail). Being a one-minute walk from the station is a huge relief if you’re traveling with kids or lots of luggage.

- Naha Airport Station to Tsubogawa Station: 4 stops on the Yui Rail, about 10 minutes
- Naha Airport to the hotel: No transfers on the Yui Rail, about 20 minutes door to door including walking
By the way, the famous Kokusai Street is just 2 stops away on the Yui Rail (about 4 minutes to Prefectural Office Station, also known as Kenchomae Station).
It’s a great spot to stay on your arrival night or your last night in Okinawa.
Easy check-in even on a late-night arrival
It’s a single, transfer-free Yui Rail ride of about 10 minutes from Naha Airport, so even a late-night flight arrival isn’t a problem.
No transfers needed, and the hotel is visible right from the station, so there’s no risk of getting lost.
The last train from Naha Airport Station runs around 11:30 PM, so keep an eye on the Yui Rail schedule if your flight lands late.
Exit the Tsubogawa Station ticket gate, turn right (toward the post office), and keep walking straight —
and you’ll reach the hotel right away.

Parking
The hotel has a multi-story parking garage.

- Hours: Vehicles can exit 24 hours a day
- Vehicle size limits: up to 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m) wide, 6 ft 7 in (2.0 m) tall, 16 ft 5 in (5.0 m) long, and 5,070 lbs (2.3 t)
The Lobby
The lobby is fairly compact, as you can see, but it has all the essentials, including a currency exchange machine.
The Room
We booked a family room with two beds plus a sofa bed. The beds were slightly larger than a standard single, so we were able to push them together and all sleep as a family.
The hotel had thoughtfully set out kids’ towels and amenities for us as well.
The facility felt a little dated, but there was a lot of surface space for setting things down, and plenty of open floor space too, so our suitcases and backpacks were never in the way.

There’s a river running alongside the hotel too, and it looks like some rooms face that direction instead.
The bathroom
The bathroom is a standard prefab unit bath (a molded, all-in-one tub/shower/sink unit common in Japanese hotels). The shower water pressure was solidly good.
There’s no large communal bath or onsen (hot spring) here. This is a place to sleep, built around convenient airport access, not a resort experience!

For a compact hotel, everything we needed was right there.
About the rental car counter
We ended up renting our car elsewhere this trip, but it turns out the hotel actually has its own counter too.
Right as you walk in the hotel entrance, you’ll see the counter for Gulliver Rent-a-Car’s Naha Tsubogawa-eki-mae branch.
Plenty of overseas visitors were using it while we were there, with cars heading out steadily throughout the morning.
Getting to a separate rental car office can be surprisingly time-consuming, so having one right in the hotel is a real convenience. Plenty of overseas guests were using it, and staff handled English smoothly.
This Gulliver Rent-a-Car counter is open to non-guests too, so you don’t need to be staying at the hotel to use it!
🚗 One thing to plan ahead for: if you’re renting a car in Japan as a foreign visitor, you’ll generally need an International Driving Permit (IDP) based on the 1949 Geneva Convention, issued in your home country before you travel — it can’t be arranged after you arrive. A few countries (including Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco, and Taiwan) instead require an official Japanese translation of your local license. Double-check the requirement for your country well before your trip, since rental counters cannot bend this rule.
A convenience store 1 minute away
There’s no convenience store inside the hotel, but there’s a FamilyMart just 1 minute’s walk from the entrance.
There’s also a 7-Eleven a bit further past the station, which is handy to know about too.
If you’re arriving at night, stopping by before check-in is a smart move. Most convenience stores in Japan accept credit cards and contactless payment, not just cash, so don’t worry about needing exact change.
A few things to know
The hotel is kept clean, but some furnishings, like the sofas, show signs of having been in service for a while.
This isn’t a shiny new hotel or a resort — it’s a solid option for anyone who wants an affordable place to sleep near the airport!
Family-Friendly Perks

- Crib rental available: ¥500/night (about $3.20), suitable for babies up to 22 lbs (10 kg)

Free stays for kids up to 12 sharing a bed really helps. For us, flying in on a late-night flight the evening before and staying one night here worked out cheaper than flying out early the next morning instead.
Tips for Choosing a Hotel Near Naha Airport
Truly low-hassle, near-the-airport hotels are surprisingly rare
Since we were picking up a rental car, we wanted somewhere close to the airport where we could keep costs down, sleep, and grab the car first thing the next morning.
Hotels that actually fit those criteria near Naha Airport turned out to be surprisingly limited. There are plenty of hotels around Kokusai Street and the coastal areas, but once you narrow it down to “genuinely close to the airport” and “close to a station too, since we didn’t want to walk far with all our luggage,” the options shrink fast.
If your flight lands late at night, choosing a hotel near a Yui Rail station is a smart move.
While researching, two other options we considered were Rihga Royal Gran Okinawa and DoubleTree by Hilton Naha, both right by Asahibashi Station, one stop over.
Both are great value, but since we wouldn’t really be spending time at the hotel or sightseeing nearby this trip, we saved them for next time. They’d be a great fit if you’re planning to explore Kokusai Street or catch an event at Okinawa Cellular Stadium Naha.

Tips for Traveling on a Budget
Adjusting your flight dates or times can sometimes bring the cost down significantly.
Booking a “flight + hotel + rental car” package is also often a great way to save more.
Package deals usually just require booking one night of hotel through the package — for a 3-night trip, for example, you can fix one night through the package and book the other nights separately, and the discount still applies.
Final Thoughts
Mercure Okinawa Naha has an unbeatable location — about 10 minutes from Naha Airport by Yui Rail, and just 1 minute on foot from the station — making it an easy, stress-free check-in even after a late-night arrival.
Between the on-site rental car counter, coin laundry, and free stays for kids up to 12 sharing a bed, it’s an easy hotel to use as your home base. It’s not a resort, but if convenience and cost are your priorities, this hotel is a strong pick.
