Hotel Metropolitan Haneda: Plane-View Rooms, Airport Access, and HICity — A Family’s Honest Review

Hotel Metropolitan Haneda is right by Tenkubashi Station on the Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Line.

Exit the ticket gates and head toward Haneda Innovation City (HICity). The hotel is in Zone A.

It’s a fairly new hotel, having opened in 2023.

The red area is the hotel, and the blue area is HICity.

From Haneda Airport Terminal 3, it’s just one stop — about 2 to 5 minutes — to Tenkubashi Station on either the monorail or Keikyu Line, so access from the airport is quite good too.

Here’s what the lobby looks like — quite simple.

Check-in was handled through an automated kiosk.

Staff were on hand to help if needed, and checkout was just as smooth — no complicated steps, just insert your card into the machine and you’re done.

When we took the elevator up to our floor, we found the hallway floor was designed to look like a runway!

The hallway is fairly long, but with the runway-style design, it felt cool and fun rather than tedious.

Our kids pretended to be airplanes the whole way down.

Here’s the room — very simple.

The walkway leading to the room looked like this,

and a stroller took up about half the width of it.

Here’s the bath and toilet.

The flush button and washlet controls are positioned toward the back, which made them a little awkward to reach — but it was clean and reasonably spacious.

*Note: there’s no large communal bath.

Which runway is in use depends on wind direction and weather. Mainly you’ll see departures from Runway B, with landings on Runways A and C visible further in the distance.

Planes departing from Runway B fly right toward the hotel.

The hotel also has a rooftop area you can access.

Tap your room key and you can head out to the rooftop garden.

*Note: it’s only reachable by stairs, so it’s not accessible by wheelchair or stroller.

It has a great view, with sofas set up too.

There’s a sink and trash bin at the bottom of the stairs, so it’s a good spot to eat a packed lunch.

You can see the planes fine at adult height, but kids need to be carried or put on your shoulders to see over the railing.

There’s no step stool or anything, so carrying them or a piggyback ride is the way to go.

There’s a Tully’s Coffee and other cafes inside the building too, so if you have time, it’s fun to wander around this area!

Happily, this particular Tully’s location offers decaf!

Our kids spotted a Godzilla statue and led us over to it, and we found a sushi restaurant nearby.

The 4th floor is home to “Edo-koji” (an Edo-era-styled dining alley) lined with charming little shops — sushi, ramen, and all sorts of options.

Everything looked delicious, but with tourist pricing, it was a bit pricier than what you’d find in town (lol).

In the end, we went with okonomiyaki, at a restaurant called Okonomiyaki Machiya.

The airport was crowded and it was right at dinner time, but we were able to get a table here without waiting.

The monorail runs along an elevated track, so the views are lovely.

Depending on the time of day, it runs about every 5 minutes, so you won’t have to wait long.

The lightning was flashing constantly, close enough that we could see strikes nearby — but surprisingly, we could barely hear any thunder.

And the airport’s night view was so peaceful and beautiful.
